APWConflict and Negotiation Workshop

The Ontario College of Pharmacists would like to invite you to attend our new

Conflict Analysis & Resolution - An Advanced Workshop for Preceptors
Presented by Prof. Zubin Austin

Held on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at the College

There are many potential sources of conflict in the workplace, ranging from interpersonal disagreement to misunderstandings about workplace goals or objectives. A preceptor’s conflict may arise when students’ expectations do not align with workplace realities, or when preceptors’ plans do not correspond with students’ desires. This interactive workshop will introduce preceptors to the way in which conflict may arise in the workplace, in particular with students as they are learning to become pharmacists. Using self-assessment tools, preceptors will identify their own conflict management style and will develop new methods for addressing disagreements and negotiating mutually acceptable solutions.
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will:
  • describe how conflict may arise in the workplace and identify situations where conflict is necessary, positive and beneficial
  • identify major courses of interpersonal conflict
  • discuss common responses to interpersonal conflict based on self-assessment of conflict management style
  • practise behaviours to more effectively resolve interpersonal conflicts and negotiate acceptable solutions
