Napra Advisory Notice

May 15, 2008 - Advisory Notice:

NAPRA supports advisory committee recommendation for levonorgestrel

Dear Colleague:

Please be advised that the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) has accepted the recommendation of the National Drug Scheduling Advisory Committee (NDSAC) to change the conditions of sale in pharmacies for the drug levonorgestrel. As such, the product Plan BŪ will move from Schedule II to Schedule III status.

As you are aware, drug scheduling in Ontario is by reference to the NDSAC model and accordingly, effective immediately, Plan BŪ may be sold from the area of the pharmacy where self-selection by the public is possible, in a location close to the dispensary where the pharmacist is available for consultation.

The attached news release provides more information regarding NAPRA and NDSAC.

Sincerely,
