Pharmacy Relocation
Dec 1997 Council Report
Jan/Feb 1998 Pharmacy Connection
Council approved an Accreditation Committee recommendation that defines what would constitute a pharmacy relocation for the purposes of the Drug and Pharmacies Regulation Act. Physically moving the entire pharmacy from one location to another location with or without a legal municipal address change would be considered a relocation; this would include moving the entire pharmacy from one location in a mall or plaza to another. The following circumstances would not be considered a relocation:
- moving one or more walls of a pharmacy be reducing or increasing the square footage with or without a municipal address change
- moving the dispensary from one area within the pharmacy to another.
The issue of relocation was considered by the Accreditation Committee after field representatives discovered that some pharmacies were "relocating" and not informing the College. The July/August 1997 issue of Pharmacy Connection contained an article on the subject of pharmacy relocations. After the article was published, the College received a number of calls from people expressing concern that the definition of a relocation was unfair to pharmacists who were expanding their pharmacies to better meet the need for a private consultation area. The original definition was revised in December to address pharmacists' concerns.
