Final reminder — College seeks feedback on By-law No. 3: Changes to information available on the Public Register

As part of our commitment to transparency, the College is seeking feedback on proposed amendments to our By-Law No. 3 (Phase Two) relating to information that is posted on the public register.

Members and the public are invited to review and provide feedback on the proposed by-law amendments by Feb. 10, 2015.

College website offers useful information for questions on changes to Physician Prescribing Status

The College receives a number of practice-related questions and recently we're receiving questions about pharmacists dispensing prescriptions (new and refill) after a physician’s registration status has changed.

A couple of questions we’ve received include:

  • A physician in my area has been suspended. If a patient still has refills on a prescription from this physician, can I continue filling the prescription?

  • A physician in my area has retired. Can I continue to fill prescriptions for these patients?

For answers to these questions and more information, visit the Physician Prescribing Status Fact Sheet on the College website.

Resources available for methadone dispensers and providers

The Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) offers methadone resources funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

The methadone drug information line for professionals provides free access to drug information experts who can answer questions about methadone in the treatment of addiction. This service is available to all pharmacists and is not restricted to OPA members.
Call 1-888-519-6069
Monday - Friday

Also offered is an online methadone discussion forum that allows methadone practitioners to share best practices, discuss practice questions and interact with other pharmacists and physicians who prescribe or dispense methadone for opioid addiction. Registration is free.

In addition, more information on Opioid Maintenance Treatment (Methadone and Buprenorphine) is available within the Methadone & Buprenorphine Practice Tool on the College website.
