Certified Geriatric Pharmacist Preparation Course

Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (CGP) Preparation Course - Medication Therapy Management for Older Adults

Pharmacists in most practice settings have an important role to play in identifying and preventing drug-related problems in the older adult population. Older adults are more vulnerable to drug-therapy problems as a result of the numerous physiological changes that occur as they age, and as a result, they may be more likely to develop co-morbid conditions that lend themselves to polypharmacy.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify medical conditions commonly seen in the elderly
  • Demonstrate knowledge of geriatric pharmacotherapy and the knowledge and skills to provide pharmaceutical care to the elderly
  • Interpret and understand current clinical guidelines in the management of common medical conditions in the elderly
  • Describe and communicate the role of the pharmacist in managing various diseases in the elderly
  • Assess patient cases to aid in translating theory into practice
