Orientation to Pharmacy in Long-Term Care and Residential Care Facilities (OPA)
This online continuing education program is an introductory course intended for pharmacists and pharmacy students interested in pursuing a career in long-term care (LTC) or residential care pharmacy in Ontario (the program has a focus on LTC). The goal of this course is to provide participants with an overview of the long-term care and residential care sectors, describe the nature of pharmacy practice as it pertains to these practice settings, and familiarize participants with some of the key regulatory requirements and terminology common to these practice environments. Strategies to minimize adverse drug reactions and optimize medication use in older persons, and basic principles of medication therapy management (MTM) in elderly patients will also be addressed.
This course is intended to be an orientation program, thus no prerequisite or prior exposure to LTC or residential care is required.
