Summary

Pharmacists participating in the Alberta Health Take Home Naloxone Program developed in partnership with Alberta Health Services, will be involved in helping Albertan's to gain better access to naloxone. Naloxone is a Schedule 1 drug used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. This program will help pharmacists in Alberta understand the Take Home Naloxone program and will also explain their role as a participant in the program.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the principle of harm reduction
  • Understand how pharmacists will participate in improving access to naloxone in the community
  • Describe at risk individuals that might benefit from access to naloxone
  • Describe the contents of a Take Home Naloxone (THN) kit
  • Understand the difference between an opioid and a stimulant with respect to naloxone
