Language Proficiency Requirements for Pharmacists

International pharmacy graduates who submit objective evidence to demonstrate their language proficiency must meet the minimum acceptable scores for one of the objective tests listed below as set by NAPRA and within the standard error of measurement (SEM) where indicated or by the College.

The College only accepts test score reports sent directly from the testing institution.

ENGLISH TESTS

Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) – General

  • Reading: 8
  • Writing: 8
  • Listening: 8
  • Speaking: 8

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Academic format taken at an IELTS test centre. The College does not accept the IELTS Online.

  • Reading: 6
  • Writing: 6 (SEM: 0.5)
  • Listening: 6
  • Speaking: 6 (SEM: 0.5)
  • OVERALL BAND: 7 (SEM: 0.5)

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – General Training

  • Reading: 6.5

Pearson Test of English Core (PTE Core)

  • Reading: 69
  • Writing: 79
  • Listening: 71
  • Speaking: 76

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Internet-based test or the TOEFL iBT Home Edition test.

  • Reading: Required; No minimum score set
  • Writing: 25 (SEM: 3)
  • Listening: Required; No minimum score set
  • Speaking: 27 (SEM: 2)
  • TOTAL: 97 (SEM: 5)

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Paper-based test
