PEBC

A Certificate of Qualification from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) is a requirement for individuals first registering as pharmacists or pharmacy technicians in Ontario.

The PEBC is the national certification body for the pharmacy profession to assess qualifications on behalf of participating provincial regulatory authorities. It administers:

  • Credential assessments for international pharmacy graduates
  • Credential assessments for international pharmacy technicians applicants
  • National certification examinations for pharmacists
  • National certification examinations for pharmacy technicians

Credential assessment consists of a document evaluation and an evaluating exam for the relevant level of registration. In Ontario, applicants must have completed their credential assessment before beginning any bridging education required for their relevant pathway to registration.

PEBC examinations are based on the relevant National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) Entry-to-Practice Competencies for pharmacists or pharmacy technicians, and assess the candidate’s pharmaceutical knowledge and skills as required of graduates of current pharmacy education programs in Canada.

PEBC examinations are offered at various examination centres across Canada.

Costs

The PEBC examination fees for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are posted on their website, and in the College’s Fees & Timelines tables.

Validity Date for Currency of Education

The College accepts the PEBC Qualifying Exam as an alternative measure to demonstrate currency of education for three years from the latest pass date. Certification with PEBC itself does not expire.
