Structured Practical Evaluation

Structured Practical Evaluation (SPE) is the “independent double check” that is required for pharmacy technician applicants who are in the bridging program route to registration in Ontario. SPE requires pharmacy technician applicants to demonstrate their competency by accurately checking a minimum of 500 consecutive orders/prescriptions without making any errors.

To participate in SPE, candidates must have successfully completed the Management of Drug Distribution Systems course of the Pharmacy Technician Bridging Program by January 1, 2015. Candidates are required to find an evaluator who meets the SPE Evaluator Criteria.

Applicants must complete their final application for registration as a pharmacy technician within two years from the time they successfully complete SPE.
