Structured Practical Evaluation
Structured Practical Evaluation (SPE) is the “independent double check” that is required for pharmacy technician applicants who are in the bridging program route to registration in Ontario.
To participate in SPE, candidates must have successfully completed the Management of Drug Distribution Systems for Pharmacy Technician Bridging course. Candidates are required to find an evaluator who meets the SPE Evaluator Criteria.
SPE requires pharmacy technician applicants to demonstrate their competency by accurately checking a minimum of 500 consecutive orders/prescriptions without making any errors.
The program was developed to reflect the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authority’s (NAPRA) Entry to Practice Competencies for Pharmacy Technicians.
Applicants must complete their final application for registration as a pharmacy technician within two years from the time they successfully complete SPE.
