We are pleased to share with you the Ontario College of Pharmacists’ 2018 Annual Report entitled, Measuring Performance, Improving Outcomes. In addition to providing updates on our statutory responsibilities, this year’s report offers several highlights regarding key initiatives aimed at improving our, and the profession’s, ability to harness the power of data and information to promote quality pharmacy care, support better patient outcomes as well as improve regulatory and health system performance. This includes:

  • Our work with Health Quality Ontario to introduce the province’s first Quality Indicators for Pharmacy that will equip the College, pharmacies and health system stakeholders with the information they need to measure and enhance the quality of pharmacy care and its impact on health outcomes of Ontarians;
  • The development of the AIMS (Assurance and Improvement in Medication Safety) Program focused on reducing the risk of medication incidents and standardizing the approach to quality improvement for all pharmacies in Ontario; and
  • The creation of an Opioid Policy and our ongoing work with health system stakeholders through partnered efforts tables related to the identification and sharing of relevant quality indicators and the prevention of loss of controlled substances within practice settings.

The report includes statistics on each of our programs and links to resources such as an appendix with summaries of discipline decisions made in 2018. Along with developing a full annual report, we’ve also begun to produce a supplement of the annual report in digital format for those who may prefer to view information on mobile devices using Google, Firefox and Safari browsers at www.ocpannualreport2018.ca.
