Summary
To be eligible to write the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certificate Exam, the following criteria must be met:
You must have had current, active registration in a professional body within the last five years; Following registration or licensing, you must have the equivalent of two-full-time years’ work experience in your professional field; and for two of the last five years, at least one day (7.5 hrs) per week or 400 hours per year must be worked in direct diabetes education (pharmacists can include time spent training patients on the use of blood glucose meters, blood letters, instructions on use of pen injectors as well as time discussing medications taken for diabetes or medications which may affect glycemic control; effectively, any time spent counselling patients with diabetes could be counted).
