The Ministry of Health has posted proposed regulatory amendments to the College’s Registration and Quality Assurance Regulations under the Pharmacy Act. The proposed regulation amendments flow from the College’s original submission to the government in 2018 following an open consultation and subsequent Board approval.

Pharmacy professionals and system partners can comment on these proposed changes through Ontario’s Regulatory Registry. The deadline to provide feedback is January 12, 2024.

If approved, the major changes under the proposed amendments related to registration and quality assurance are:

  • Removing the student class and implementing an Intern Pharmacy Technician class of registration;
  • Integrating Pharmacy Technicians into the two-part register for distinguishing registrants who provide patient care;
  • Incorporating pharmacy technicians into the quality assurance program;
  • Streamlining the registration process;
  • Aligning the quality assurance program to the requirements specified in the RHPA; and
  • Shifting from an hourly reporting of practice to a self-declaration of competency in conjunction with practice assessments for Part A registrants.
