ODBA e-Learning Module

The Ontario Drug Benefit Act (ODBA) e-Learning Module is one in a series of learning modules that the College is introducing. It is an overview of key principles in the ODBA and its related regulation. We recommend that you view this module and refer to the ODBA legislation as required, as well as the practice policies and guidelines applicable to this legislation.

The estimated running time is approximately two hours but will depend on your individual pace.

Updates

October 2018:

As of August 1, 2018, section 18(1) of Ontario Regulation 201/96 — General to the ODB Act is revoked, therefore, removing the 35-days’ supply limit in place Ontario Works recipients (as noted in the ODBA module).

As of January 1, 2018, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care created a new eligible class of ODB program recipients under the Act: OHIP+: Children and Youth Pharmacare. Ontario Regulation 201/96 was amended by adding – persons who are under 25 years of age –  who are covered by OHIP as a prescribed class of eligible persons for ODB drug coverage.

Pharmacy practice policies and guidelines were developed to support legislation. Please refer to the OCP website for the policies and guidelines that are applicable to the ODBA to support your understanding of the legislation. The Ontario Public Drug Programs (Ministry of Health and Long Term Care) also has useful information on the ODB program and other services.
